Assessments

We use both formal and informal assessments to identify your child’s strengths, areas of challenge, your child’s interests, likes and dislikes.  Assessments are carefully tailored to get a holistic picture of your child’s presenting areas of difficulty and the underlying reasons or causes.

We therefore offer comprehensive assessments as well as assessments of only one or more specific areas.

Assessments are charged per hour.  We believe that financial resources should be allocated wisely.  It is important to us that we spend only the absolute necessary time and financial resources on assessment, and reserve the bulk for the actual intervention.

Together with you we will discuss the nature of your child’s difficulties, the reason for the assessment, your priorities, and any relevant information from the therapist regarding these areas of difficulty.  Armed with this information you will be in the best position to decide what type of assessment will be best for your child.

Assessments required for funding

We provide assessments as required in applications for additional funding  such as the Program for Students with Disabilities (PSD)

Approximately one in four students with a disability in mainstream government schools is eligible for the Program for Students with Disabilities (PSD).

To be eligible for the PSD, your child must meet the criteria for one of seven categories:

  • physical disability
  • visual impairment
  • severe behaviour disorder
  • hearing impairment
  • intellectual disability
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • severe language disorder with critical educational needs.

The Victorian and Commonwealth governments also fund Catholic and independent schools to help them meet the needs of their students with disabilities.
